Description
When Mahakasyapa reached enlightenment while observing Shakyamuni Buddha picking a flower, it was shown that enlightenment could be attained through any experience, and at any moment. This famous experience, which became known as the Flower Sermon, demonstrated that enlightenment was not simply attainable though religious scholasticism. This teaching has become one of the foundational teachings of Zen Buddhism.
In Pages and Pages of Enlightenment, Living Buddha Lian-sheng uses Zen like teachings to push his readers to see past the religious scholasticism and logic which can, at times, entangle the minds of practitioners. In this book, the scholastic aspects and pith instructions are explained by Living Buddha Lian-sheng - emptiness and existence, purity and defilement, birth and cessation, transmigration and nirvana, the noble and the ordinary, good and bad, virtue and evil, etc. However, enlightenment is not found in any of these. Living Buddha Lian-sheng gives readers a glimpse into genuine enlightenment in modern day Zen teachings gives readers these pages and pages enlightenment in hopes that readers will gain further insight into what it means to be a Living Buddha.
